Design Engineer (m/w/d)

Berlin, Germany
Full-time
Fixed-term

Your mission

As a Design Engineer, you shape the experience of our two products, Experience Intelligence (XI) and Real Estate Intelligence (RI), and you build it in code. The product is the source of truth, not the Figma file. You'll work closely with the experienced Design Engineer who leads our design team.

  • Answers people can trust: Shape how and where AI insights show up, and show where they come from, so people feel confident acting on them.
  • Agents that augment and automate: Define the line between augmentation and automation: where our AI agent works alongside people, where it takes work off their plate, and how it explains itself and hands control back.
  • Complex data, calm products: Turn dense information, from feedback at scale to a portfolio of leases, into interfaces that feel light to newcomers and fast to experts.
  • Work that leaves the product: Design the reports and stories people take into their next meeting, so the output looks as good as the insight behind it.
  • From idea to production: Prototype fast, learn from real users, then ship the real thing, polished and accessible. Along the way, help shape the components and visual language that keep Primefold coherent.

This isn't a pure visual design role that hands off mockups, and it isn't a pure frontend role that builds someone else's specs. You design and you build, and you stay with the work until people use it. You'll work on open problems and learn to shape them yourself, with support.

Your profile

You're a designer at heart. You're always on the lookout for what could be better, and you'd rather show a working prototype than explain a mockup.

Your work shows that you:

  • Design and build interfaces yourself, from idea to working code (HTML, CSS, TypeScript, some React)
  • Have a point of view on visual and interaction design and can explain your choices
  • Can feel when something is off and iterate until it feels right
  • Build things that are needed without being asked: side projects, experiments, tools you made because the existing ones didn't fit

You also:

  • Are driven by curiosity and a will to improve
  • Use AI tools every day and scrutinise what they produce
  • Take feedback without ego and give it honestly
  • Speak and write fluently in English

Bonus: motion, graphic or brand design, and fluent German.

You don't need domain knowledge of real estate, surveys or analytics. You'll learn it through your work. There's no perfect candidate, so if this role excites you, apply.

Why us?

Working at Primefold is a chance to shape how AI is used in complex business workflows and to put that work directly into customers' hands. You'll work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with people who care about what they build.

  • Close mentorship: Grow your skills together with our lead Design Engineer, around your interests and what the company needs.
  • Real ownership: Within 6 months, you own a product area and help shape how Primefold designs AI interactions.
  • Design culture: Time to explore beyond the roadmap, regular design critiques, and small batches over perfect Figma files. We measure ourselves against the best: Linear, Vercel, Raycast, Notion.
  • Learning budget: For courses, books, conferences and tools that help you grow.
  • Compensation: €60,000 to €80,000 gross per year, including a negotiable VSOP equity agreement.
  • Remote-first: Preferably based in Berlin.
  • Sustainable pace: We work hard when it matters, but we don't do crunch.
  • A humanistic way of working: Collaborative, egoless, transparent and responsive.
How to apply:Send 2 to 3 things you've made (a live site, repo, portfolio piece, screenshots or video), with a line on what was yours and what you'd change now, plus a few lines on why this role is for you. A 2 to 5 minute screen recording walking through one project is optional. A cover letter is not required. You can leave out your photo and age from your CV.
